Description

Harvard Medical School Department of Education offers a variety of distance learning opportunities so that our CME programs can be accessible to health care professionals around the world. Our online programs are directed by HMS Faculty and go through an extensive planning and review process to ensure quality education that is unbiased, evidence-based, accurate, and up to date.

We offer a variety of learning formats. CME Online refers to case-based, interactive modules that are available on demand. DVD programs are available for purchase and can be viewed in video format or as an audio package. Webcasts refer to multimedia programs that are presented online, and Live Streaming Webcasts are online, multimedia events that happen in real time.     SANJIV CHOPRA, MD
    Faculty Dean for Continuing Education
    Professor of Medicine
    Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

    Dr. Sanjiv Chopra is Professor of Medicine and Faculty Dean for Continuing Medical Education at Harvard Medical School and Senior Consultant in Hepatology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. In his role as Faculty Dean for Continuing Education, Dr. Chopra provides oversight and leadership of the Department and oversees the academic development of our programs. Dr. Chopra is an experienced clinician, researcher, and educator. In his research roles, he has served both as a principal investigator as well as co-investigator. He has more than 120 publications and five books to his credit, addressing topics in disease states, patient care, and leadership. Dr. Chopraís teaching experience is extensive, and he has won numerous teaching awards for his work with medical students, residents and physicians. Currently, he directs and speaks at 10 multiday CME courses, nine of which are through HMS. For his full bio, please click here.

    MARY LOU TOWNSEND, M.Ed.
    Director of Administration and Operations

    As a core member of the leadership team in the Department of Continuing Education, Mary Lou serves as a strategic partner to the department senior leadership and staff, as well as the faculty and Medical School departments to ensure policies and procedures are in place to meet compliance with CME accreditation.

    Mary Lou earned her M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Northeastern University and graduated from Westfield State College with a degree in Elementary/Special Education. Her professional interests focus on business operations, system definition and implementation and process optimization.

    ANDI LONG, EdM
    Associate Director of Distance Learning

    Andi Long directs the Department of Continuing Educationís Distance Learning group, which offers a variety of online continuing medical education programs to health care professionals around the world. Andi develops strategies for new pilot programs and systematically rolls out new distance learning initiatives and has a leadership role in IT planning and other online processes for HMS DCE. She oversees the day-to-day operations of each distance learning activity and ensures ACCME compliance across all enduring programs. She has had the privilege of working with hundreds of Harvard Medical School Faculty members to develop high-quality, engaging online programs that physicians in more than 170 countries have taken part in.

    Andi earned her Ed.M. in Technology, Innovation, and Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education and graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in English. Her professional interests focus on teaching and learning with new technologies and online course development.

    FELICITY LONG
    Web Content and Project Officer

    Felicity Long is the CME Online Web Content and Project Officer in the Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education. She is involved in all aspects of the CME Online activity development lifecycle, from a courseís planning stage through its development, peer-review, and accreditation. She also oversees the programing of content for CME Online courses, including copyright permissions. She is a graduate of Middlebury College and has been an editor and journalist for more than 15 years.

    VANESSA TARGETE-DUGUERRE
    Staff Assistant, Distance Learning

    Vanessa Duguerre is the Distance Learning Staff Assistant. She is a graduate of Northeastern University and is currently pursuing her Masterís degree at Harvard Extension School. At Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education, she uploads and edits content for CME Online and other distance learning courses, monitors and troubleshoots user feedback, issues certificates of completion, and manages reports.

    MARIA SCERRI
    Program Coordinator

    Maria is the program coordinator for CME Online. She handles learnersí registration, payments, and customer support issues. Maria also is a coordinator for HMS DCEís live courses. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelorís degree in Religious Studies.
